Anyone wondering how it happened? How God got ahold of me? Well, here it is...
Ok, there I was on a Sunday afternoon, driving my dad's brand new 1979 Ford Fairmont Sedan. Hmmm, way back in 1979. My had never even driven the car, I had just turned 16 not a month before, and I had 4 cyclinders of lightweight fiberglass, and metal in my full control. So I thought.
So, it was a gravel road, heading north from the 4-H center in Lawrence County, IL towards my friends' house. The last time I looked at the speedometer, I was at around 60MPH. Gravel, lightweight vehicles, and high speed do not mix. The car began to fishtail, then went out of control and into a ditch rolling approximately 3 times. I had no seatbelt on, and there were no airbags in cars at that time.
Ya, know what? I crawled out the window and walked away with only a scratch on my shoulder.
We will now fast forward to later that evening after my father had been told. I went to my pastor's house, who happened to live right behind us. This is the exact conversation that took place. I said, "Hey Joe, I almost met my maker today." I managed a slight chuckle. His response was, "Well, were you ready?" No other words were spoken. Those words haunted me for a month. Sometime in October, I finally admitted to the fact that if I had "met my maker" on that day, I would not have been ready. I went back to Pastor Joe and he led me to the saving grace that only comes through Jesus Christ.
You know, an interesting thing about that question, "Are you ready", if you cannot immediately say yes, then chances are, the answer is no.
God bless you all and I hope that if someone says to you "well, are you ready?" you can say "Yes, I'm ready!"

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.
